Everything You Need to Know About Dental Bone Regeneration and GraftingA healthy jawbone structure is essential in providing vital support to the teeth and also the overall oral alignment. However, the bones can develop abnormalities over time, resulting in bone volume loss. Hence when such problems occur, dental bone regeneration and grafting are necessary to fix the issues.

What Causes Jawbone Loss?

The primary role of the jawbone is to hold the teeth and maintain their original position in the mouth. However, the bones surrounding the teeth can be damaged and reabsorbed in the body due to specific oral issues.

The significant causes of loss of the jawbone are periodontal diseases or missing teeth. However, in other areas, sinus enlargements and tooth infections may cause teeth bone loss.

Jawbone Regeneration

Bone Regeneration is a suitable procedure to deal with bone loss and maintain the necessary bone volume while replacing missing teeth using a dental implant. Also known as bone grafting, this process is critical in restoring lost bone volume.

The oral surgeon uses bones from animals, humans, or synthetic bone material to act as a filler during bone regeneration procedures. Furthermore, this is fused with the existing bone, stimulating new bone growth.

What Are the Types of Bone Grafts Done in the Jawbone?

There are three types of bone grafts done to allow new bone growth. A sinus graft thickens the bones' wall to support the implant properly. Second, a ridge augmentation graft helps to rebuild the bone and provides the correct contour and height that allow adequate support to the dental implant. Finally, a socket graft that enables repairing and protection of the socket volume enables placement of the dental implant.

Generally, this procedure is essential to increase and maintain the volume of the lost bone, enabling more manageable and more efficient placement of dental implants to replace missing or extracted teeth.
